What some of our attendees said about the March 2008 Open Days:
"I never thought I could learn so much about game development in such a short space of time."
"I feel the day has been very fulfilling and enlightening. I feel I know a lot more about the
day-to-day games industry workflow."
"All staff are very friendly and motivated towards helping and informing all open day members."
"Loved the whole day from start to finish."
"Blitz rocks!!"
For the last three years Blitz have been running Open Days at our Leamington Spa studios. They have been hugely successful and we're intending to do it all again in 2009!
The student days are intended for anyone who wants to work in game development;
that doesn't mean only people who are on actual games courses,
it could also include those studying (for example) Computer Science, Audio Technology,
Illustration - any one of a number of courses where the core skills are related to games development.
If you're not sure about these, take a look at our GameON website where there is a wealth of
information about the jobs and skills needed in development.
The aim is to give people who want to work in games, and those teaching them,
a chance to experience a little of the reality of that industry, to give them a
feel for what the work entails and to pass on helpful information and experience
from our talented and enthusiastic employees. The day includes overview presentations
from the main games disciplines - 2D Art, 3D Art, Animation, Audio, Game Design, Programming,
Project Management and Quality Assurance - as well as talks by Andrew and Philip Oliver,
our founding fathers, about the business side. There is also a studio tour,
followed by the chance to discuss your work and areas of particular interest
with senior members of Blitz staff and ask even more questions!
We are running two days which are open to anyone studying a games-related course
and they will be on Friday 6th March 2009 and Friday 13th March 2009.
We are also running for the first time a day specifically aimed at programmers,
which will be on Friday 20th March 2009 - so if you're studying Games Technology,
Computer Science, Maths, Physics or anything similar, please sign up!
If you think that you would benefit from knowing more about your chosen career,
this is absolutely for you. Please note that anyone wanting to attend one of our
Open Days has to complete a work sample and send it to us - this is because we get
a huge number of applications and need some way to sift them so that the places go
to really deserving people! But don't think you're not good enough to gain a place -
we pick a mix of people from really polished near-graduates to first years with potential.

The closing date for work submissions is Monday 19th January 2009.
The lecturers' day offers an unparalleled opportunity for those involved in teaching
any courses which might involve students interested in pursuing a career in games,
to come and see what skills and attitudes are needed by the games industry,
and to talk about expectations and requirements from both perspectives.
We are only running one lecturers' day in 2009, which will be on Friday 27th March 2009.
This is intended for those who have not attended a previous Blitz Open Day.
If you are a lecturer, tutor or otherwise involved in game-related education, please submit your details through the REGISTRATION FORM and we will be in touch with further details.
The closing date for applications is Monday 19th January 2009.
All the days are free to attend and lunch and refreshments are provided.
The closing date for both student work submissions and lecturer applications is Monday 19th January 2009.
